Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

In spite of a few flirtations with pale pink and silvery tones, my hair has been the same colour for almost 18 months now. That is some kind of record, me thinks. It has also been more or less the same style too. (Well - it has stayed short, anyway.)

So it should come as no real surprise that I started to get a little bit twitchy and feeling like I was ready for something new.

After watching 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', I had been thinking about going black again. But then I remember how freaking hard it is to go from black to blonde again and got over it pretty quickly. I have also considered my going red or copper but it is so hard to get a really good shade and it fades so fast.

Plus, I actually like having white hair now - I just want to do something a little different with it.

And then inspiration hit me when I was looking through some coffee-table fashion books - Daphne Guinness!!

Daphne is perhaps THE most interesting person in fashion as far as I am concerned. She is fork off rich (she is an heiress of the Guinness family and ex-wife of the son Greek shipping billionaire, Stavros Niarchos) and spends loads of that cashola on collecting haute couture and generally being fabulous. She is also the latest face of MAC.

I absolutely adore her.

In addition to being consistently dressed in gorgeous, high fashion, her hair is always coloured in some variation of white with black. So I thought, why don't I give it a try too?

It is a pretty out-there look and it can go either way. Here are a couple of other fab ladies who have managed to rock it:

Lady Gaga

Ok - so this is probably a wig but still v cool.

Rihanna

Remember when Rihanna had cute hair? Yeah it was a while ago - before the red perm. Anyway, towards the end of her cute hair run, she had it like this:

But I think, out of all of them, I like Daphne's the best.

I asked the Husband if he thought it was a good idea. He said that it might look a bit like a skunk but that my hair always seems to look ok, so why not? (Clearly he forgot about the time I tried to dye my hair pale, icy blue and ended up looking like a turquoise smurf.)

But what I was truly worried about was looking more like Avril or Christina...

Oh - Rihanna!  Sad. Face. Still - it could be worse I suppose...

How the hell did Nicole let THAT happen?

Anyhoo, I bit the bullet and got my hair did last week. At first it looked a bit weird - a bit too emo. I was pretty sure that I had made a ha-uuuuuuuge mistake. I think you can see why.

I managed to get the hang of it throughout the week though and am now mightily pleased with how my new hair looks.

I think I will even keep it like this for a little while.

Yeah I agree, the first photo, well, let's say it's not good. The second and third photos though, I actually quite like. You are a pretty lass, so you have an immediate advantage, but the colouring looks very pleasing. Not fashionable, not trendy, fairly original, and definitely in your style. Congrats, now I wonder if I can convince Camilla to do it to her flaming locks?
